In 1999, professional skateboarders and best friends Mike Carroll and Rick Howard together founded Lakai Limited Footwear. The name Lakai stems from the word Malakai, which happens to be Mike Carroll’s nickname. With one of the strongest and most diverse teams behind the brand that also includes Eric Koston, Guy Mariano and mutual Utility rider Marc Johnson, Lakai is able to produce originality and skateboard functionality in every shoe and piece of clothing they make. As simply stated from the Lakai family, the shoes they make are “The Shoes We Skate.”
