Since 1966 Vans has been putting shoes on the feet of skaters and surfers. Their canvas shoes with gum rubber soles gripped onto slick piers and skinny skate decks like nothing else before it. In short time their waffle pattern sole and colorful uppers became synonymous with southern California board riding culture. Throughout the '70s and '80s skatedecks grew bigger, surfboards got smaller, and music got louder. It was during these fast times that Vans solidified their reputation with legendary skateboarders and original punk rockers, Tony Alva and Steve Caballero.
The Old Skool has never been lacking in the attitude department. It brought the dawn of the classic Vans stripe that has developed into a status symbol of tradition and skate stature. Aside from all that personality, they have lasted as long as they have because of their ability to perform on a skateboard, and to last, and last, and last. Features of the Vans Old Skool shoe include Suede and canvas upper with classic action stripe, Double-stitch construction with contrast detail, Die-cut EVA insert, Slightly padded tongue and collar, Vulcanized rubber midsole, Signature gum rubber waffle outsole.
